I got 6.5 two times straight. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Other parts are higher 7, but Writing is my Achilles heel. What should I do?<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:45px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-you-re-not-alone\"><strong>You\u2019re not alone<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This is a very common issue for many students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is Part 1 of a two-part series. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We\u2019ll cover Writing Task 1 today and Writing Task 2 in Part 2 of this series.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You&#8217;ll learn why students score 6 or 6.5 on Task 1 and how to improve to 7+.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:45px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-1-general-training-task-response-score\"><strong>#1: General Training<\/strong> &#8211; <strong>Task Response score<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The first problem is often inconsistent tone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To score 7 or higher, your vocabulary and phrasing must match the tone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Informal: letter to a friend or family<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Semiformal: letter to a neighbor or coworker you know well<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Formal: letter to someone you haven\u2019t met<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Formal letters will be more formal scenarios, such as a complaint letter to an airline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The second issue is often not fully addressing all 3 bullet points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You need two ideas per bullet point and must address them directly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:45px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-2-general-training-vocabulary-score\"><strong>#2: General Training<\/strong> &#8211; <strong>Vocabulary score<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The first mistake for this score is that students don&#8217;t use enough high-scoring vocabulary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Examiner is looking for the following<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Less common words<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Slang, idioms, and phrasal verbs for informal letters<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Topic-specific impressive vocabulary for formal letters<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Secondly, you may be repeating vocabulary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Don\u2019t use language from the bullets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Restate or paraphrase these in your own words if including information from the bullets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Avoid repeating words by using synonyms or paraphrase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:45px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-3-general-training-cohesion-coherence-score\">#3<strong> General Training &#8211; Cohesion\/Coherence score<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Your essay may have a lack of organization, which would pull down this score.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Answer each bullet point in its own paragraph.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Avoid going back to a bullet point once it has been addressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You may also be lacking transition phrases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To score 7+ for Cohesion\/Coherence, you need <a href=\"https:\/\/www.allearsenglish.com\/phrases-we-only-use-on-ielts\/\">linking phrases<\/a> to transition between ideas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These linking words will be more or less formal depending on the tone you need to set.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Informal: for what it\u2019s worth, on the other hand<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Formal: hence, consequently<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:45px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-4-academic-task-response-score\"><strong>#4: Academic &#8211;
