accents<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Aubrey asks Lindsay if she knows how many English accents there are.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lindsay thinks about all the countries that speak in English and the different areas in those countries that have different accents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She guessed about 300 English accents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aubrey shares that she looked it up and there are about 160 recognized English accents worldwide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are a lot of variations within each accents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For example, within American English there are the following among others:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Southern American accent<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Boston accent<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>New Jersey accent<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Midwest accent<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Texan accent<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" much!!<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Aubrey shares that it can be difficult to build fluency when you encounter different English accents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-english-learning-goals\"><strong>English learning goals<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Learning a language and considering accents can really depend on the goals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today Lindsay and Aubrey share the three main reasons your goals matter in considering the English accents you need to learn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-1-english-is-a-global-language\"><strong>#1: English is a global language<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This is the first reason it is vital to understand all accents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You will be interacting with different people from all over the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Therefore, you need to consume as many different English resources as possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wherever you are, you\u2019ll never only hear one accent in English.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are many English-speaking dialects and even regional dialects within each dialect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Additionally, language learners are traveling and using English as the language to communicate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They will have their own accent too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lindsay and Aubrey suggest that if you tend to think the American or UK accent is better than other accents, you must let go of that false belief.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>No accent is better than others, though you may find some easier to understand if you are more familiar with them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s all English is widely used in the business world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Learning to understand other accents helps you build connections with everyone you may encounter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This can help you get nailed down your goal, here are a few tips from Lindsay and Aubrey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These will help you understand and connect with people who have different English accents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-1-listen-to-as-many-accents-as-possible\"><strong>#1: Listen to as many accents as possible<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>There are so many resources to get an idea of a wide variety of English accents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can check out different YouTube channels, podcasts, and even TV shows with diverse casts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are examples of shows you can watch and the types of English accents you will hear:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Below Deck: <\/strong>United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, and the Bahamas<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Below Deck Down Under: <\/strong>Australian, British, Irish, American, South African, and French accents<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>You can listen and focus on the rhythm, word or syllable stress, and intonation of the speaker.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another way to test yourself if you\u2019re understanding the accent is to try and listen without transcripts or subtitles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-2-be-patient\"><strong>#2: Be patient<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Don\u2019t allow yourself to get frustrated if you have difficulty understanding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can find someone to help you and you can ask them politely to repeat or clarify.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If in a meeting, take notes and ask afterward for clarification if you missed anything.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-3-speak-to-english-speakers-from-all-over-the-world\"><strong>#3: Speak to English speakers from all over the world <\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Find speaking partners that are both native speakers and language learners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All students of All Ears English courses are invited to weekly live English speaking opportunities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These are called Open Conversation Club and Fluency Parties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Fluency Parties occur once per month and are hosted by 1-2 members of our podcasting team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students play fluency games and rotate into different conversation breakout rooms to discuss the key conversation topic of the month using the Connection Method.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The conversation topics are thought-provoking and the event is designed to help students practice and connect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Open Conversation Club sessions are held weekly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These are an opportunity to meet speaking partners and connect directly with other students to practice speaking English.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Conversation starters are provided to help you connect on a variety of topics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The event is hosted by a member of the All Ears English team who divides students into small groups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are some examples of conversation topics that are discussed in small group during this event:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>What&#8217;s the best gift you&#8217;ve ever received?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>What&#8217;s your favorite part about the city where you live?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>What is the first
