We have plans to have some friends over to swim.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She adds that she loves playing volleyball in the swimming pool.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today\u2019s episode is part two of a two-part series.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The first episode of this series is <strong><a href=\"AEE: Avoid This Mistake With Stacked Adjectives\">AEE: Avoid This Mistake With Stacked Adjectives<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aubrey and Michelle are sharing two other ways to use \u201cso\u201d that are common in business English<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-so-here-is-how-you-do-it\"><strong>So, here is how you do it<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The word \u2018so\u2019 is versatile and can be used in many different ways.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aubrey and Michelle share tips today about adding it to your daily conversations at work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This word is also common in everyday personal interactions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You need it for both!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-1-conjunction-for-a-result-or-decision\"><strong>#1: Conjunction for a result or decision<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2018So\u2019 is used to introduce a clause that explains the result of a previous statement or the decision taken based on it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Examples:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>We can\u2019t afford any delays, so I\u2019ll talk to the vendor and set a hard deadline.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>They are severely in need of funds, so I think they will accept what the investor offers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In this sample, the word \u2018so\u2019 has the same meaning as hence, therefore, or thus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But these are quite a bit more formal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In spoken English \u2018so\u2019 is much more commonly used even at work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Reserve the other ways to use it for formal writing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another tip is to combine simple sentences so that speaking and writing flows more smoothly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Use conjunctions like \u201cso\u201d to do this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-2-to-express-agreement-or-confirmation\"><strong>#2: To express agreement or confirmation<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2018So\u2019 can be used at the end of a sentence to express agreement or confirmation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are some examples to show you how to use \u2018so\u2019 as a confirmation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Examples:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>I think so.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>I guess so.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In the first example, it means \u201cI think the thing that was just mentioned&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the second example, it means \u201cI think that\u2019s probably true&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now for the way where you\u2019re using \u2018so\u2019 as an agreement, here are examples using mini-roleplays.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Mini roleplay #1:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>Aubrey:<\/strong> I want to check out that lunch spot around the corner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Michelle:<\/strong> So do I! Let\u2019s go tomorrow!<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Mini roleplay #2:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>Aubrey:<\/strong> They were worried the deal wouldn\u2019t go through.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Michelle: <\/strong>So were we.
