Happens to the best of us!<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>I heard you were out sick last week. Sorry to hear it &#8211; happens to the best of us!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Mini roleplay<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>Lindsay: <\/strong>I\u2019m sorry I forgot your birthday!<br><strong>Aubrey:<\/strong> No worries. Happens to the best of us.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-2-it-happens\"><strong>#2: It happens<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This can also be used after an apology, just like the phrase \u2018happens to the best of us.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s just a variation of it and has a more casual tone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You should note that these can be dismissive so you shouldn&#8217;t say them in response to serious situations like if a loved one died.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Example:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>My new coworker called me the wrong name, but you know what, it happens!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Mini roleplay<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>Aubrey: <\/strong>I\u2019m sorry you didn\u2019t get the promotion you were hoping for.<br><strong>Lindsay:<\/strong> Not a problem. It happens.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-3-these-things-happen-this-stuff-happens\"><strong>#3: These things happen \/ this stuff happens<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This is a good way to lightly say that something is understandable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It means it isn&#8217;t a big deal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It also shows that you can relate because something similar happened to you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Example:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>If an IT person lets you know it\u2019ll be a few hours before the internet is back up: \u201cThanks for letting me know. These things happen!\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-4-accidents-happen\"><strong>#4: Accidents happen<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Small accidents are understandable and you can show compassion and patience with this phrase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is a great way to acknowledge that something wasn\u2019t done on purpose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Example:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>If someone spills a drink on you: \u201cDon\u2019t sweat it! Accidents happen!\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Mini roleplay<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>Aubrey:<\/strong> I think I accidentally took your coffee. I\u2019m so sorry!<br><strong>Lindsay: <\/strong>No big deal. Accidents happen.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-compassion-and-connection-at-work\"><strong>Compassion and connection at work<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>There are many ways to connect at work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can build a connection <a href=\"https:\/\/www.allearsenglish.com\/dont-let-ion-throw-you-off\/\">when you make mistakes<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When someone makes an error that\u2019s not too serious, you should avoid making them feel worse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can lighten the mood by using the vocabulary shared by Lindsay and Aubrey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-context-is-key\"><strong>Context is key!<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>There are definitely situations when you shouldn\u2019t use today&#8217;s phrases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These imply that a situation is not serious and is not a big deal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They could downplay a serious situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If someone has work performance issues or is constantly late, don&#8217;t use these phrases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You wouldn\u2019t want to imply that those issues are not a big deal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re in a leadership position, missing a meeting or making a mistake that has dire consequences shouldn\u2019t be shrugged off.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-roleplay\"><strong>Roleplay<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Here is a quick roleplay from Lindsay and Aubrey using the vocabulary shared in today\u2019s episode.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This can help you better understand how these are used in a normal conversation in the workplace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this scenario, Lindsay and Aubrey are colleagues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>Aubrey: <\/strong>Bad news.
