class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-business-meetings-in-english\"><strong>Business meetings in English<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Lindsay asks Aubrey if she is good at thinking outside the box.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aubrey shares she is a person who tends to keep following instructions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She doesn\u2019t deviate most of the time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She shares that her daughter often thinks outside the box and she commended her for that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lindsay shares she does a lot of practical and scrappy thinking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She would often <a meetings<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>These idioms can be used to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.allearsenglish.com\/your-career-with-julie-holunga\/\">express yourself confidently in business situations<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They will make you sound native and natural.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-1-think-outside-the-box\"><strong>#1: Think outside the box<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This is often heard in the corporate setting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> It means coming up with innovative ideas<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>Example:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We need to think outside the box on this project.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-2-balls-in-the-air\"><strong>#2: Balls in the air<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This means there are multiple tasks, projects, or responsibilities to handle at the same time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>Example:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With these new contracts coming in, we have a lot of balls in the air right now.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-3-back-to-the-drawing-board\"><strong>#3: Back to the drawing board<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This is said to mean that you need to start over. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You usually hear this because something didn\u2019t go as planned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>Example:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Unfortunately, they didn\u2019t accept the proposal so we\u2019re back to the drawing board.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-4-move-the-needle\"><strong>#4: Move the needle<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This means to make significant progress or achieve something that positively impacts a situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>Example:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We\u2019ve been able to move the needle on our goal of zero emissions.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-5-cut-corners\"><strong>#5: Cut corners<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>You can say this as an alternative to say someone is taking shortcuts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> It\u2019s usually done to save resources, like money or time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>Example:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We want to provide the best possible quality, so let\u2019s avoid cutting any corners.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-roleplay\"><strong>Roleplay<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Here is a quick roleplay from Lindsay and Aubrey using the vocabulary shared in today\u2019s episode.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this scenario, Aubrey and Lindsay are in a business meeting and are sharing ideas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>Aubrey:<\/strong> We have a lot of balls in the air right now. We\u2019re going to need some outside the box thinking to manage it all.<br><strong>Lindsay: <\/strong>I have some ideas on how to move the needle on a couple of these projects, but it might require us to cut corners.<br><strong>Aubrey: <\/strong>I\u2019m excited to hear what you\u2019ve come up with.
