Take care.<\/p>\n<cite>Luca from Italy<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>There\u2019s a lot to think about when diving into the differences between \u2018will\u2019 and \u2018going to.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today\u2019s episode is part one of a three-part series across all of the All Ears English Podcasts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lindsay and Aubrey will be focusing on the use of \u2018will\u2019 and \u2018going to\u2019 in the business setting in this first installment to the series.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-will-versus-going-to\"><strong>\u201cWill\u201d versus \u201cgoing to\u201d<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Lindsay and Aubrey provide guidelines on which phrase to choose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You are guaranteed to use \u2018will\u2019 and \u2018going to\u2019 in your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.allearsenglish.com\/grammar-helps-you-avoid-being-quiet\/\">English conversations<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are questions you must ask yourself to know which is appropriate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-question-1-casual-or-formal\"><strong>Question #1: Casual or formal?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>For formal speech or writing, you should use \u2018will.\u2019 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can use \u2018going to\u2019 in a more informal setting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Example:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>We will begin the meeting at 10 a.m.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The client will meet us at the office next week.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>We&#8217;re going to happy hour later.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Where are you going this weekend?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-question-2-planned-or-unplanned\"><strong>Question #2: Planned or unplanned?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The term \u2018going to\u2019 means you have planned to do something and you\u2019re about to do it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can also hear a variation of this wherein native English speakers say \u2018gonna.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Example:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>What do you think he\u2019s going to say in the meeting?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Do you know when she\u2019s going to submit the paperwork?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>On the other hand, \u2018will\u2019, is used to refer to unplanned events or tasks. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There is also a variation of this where native English speakers use a contraction, adding \u2018ll to the subject.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Example:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>I\u2019ll ask the CFO what she thinks.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>He\u2019ll agree with this plan.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-roleplay\"><strong>Roleplay<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The following roleplay uses today\u2019s guidelines to use \u2018will\u2019 and \u2018going to\u2019 in a regular conversation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this scenario, Lindsay and Aubrey are coworkers chatting before a meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Aubrey:<\/strong> Do you know if we\u2019re going to attend the conference next month? (planned)<br><strong>Lindsay: <\/strong>I\u2019m not sure. I\u2019ll ask after the meeting. (unplanned)<br><strong>Aubrey:<\/strong> Ok, thanks, I\u2019d appreciate it.<br><strong>Lindsay: <\/strong>A few of us are going to happy hour after work. Wanna come?
