Thank you for the interesting video \ud83d\ude42 <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>I teach English to adults in Egypt. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>My question is, if I hear my learners making this mistake with pronouns (e.g. She is taller than me), should I leave it out in the feedback I give them on their speaking, or should I correct them? <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Some of them might say that they hear native speakers saying it! <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>I&#8217;d really appreciate your advice on that. Thanks in advance!<\/em><\/p>\n<cite>@ahmedtarekahmedshalaby7175<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-how-to-stay-motivated\"><strong>How to stay motivated<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Language learning should be fun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It should be taught in a way that encourages students to use the language to make deeper and better connections across different cultures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All Ears English is all about the connection and making relationships stronger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can check out episode <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/hO7s_sYhVD8\">AEE 2125: How to Share Your Faults in English for Deeper Connection<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-is-the-goal\"><strong>What is the goal<\/strong>?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Teaching methods should be dependent on the goals of the learner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If a learner is studying the language itself as a major in college or to pass an exam where grammar is scored, then grammar should be corrected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, it is not helpful to correct every mistake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Teachers should focus on certain types of errors in a class.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Otherwise no real learning or improvement will take place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-learning-for-general-fluency\"><strong>Learning for general fluency<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If a learner&#8217;s goal is general fluency, their grammar should not be corrected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It can be demotivating to be corrected a lot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Depending on the delivery it can hurt learning and progress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Additionally, if the student is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.allearsenglish.com\/your-grammar-questions-answered\/\">focusing on perfecting grammar<\/a>, it will be difficult to improve fluency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If the goal is to communicate a message clearly, and the student is doing that, then the outcome is reached.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-perfect-grammar-is-rarely-the-goal\"><strong>Perfect grammar is rarely the goal<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Language learners should not be overly self-critical.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Take a step back and refocus on the goal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Don&#8217;t aim to be 100% perfect, as this will just frustrate you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Instead, work toward the improvement you want to achieve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This may be pronunciation, improved vocabulary or getting an idea across.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Even native English speakers make mistakes or don\u2019t follow grammar rules because it&#8217;s part of their regional dialect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are many native speaker errors that teachers shouldn&#8217;t correct.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-1-she-s-taller-than-me\"><strong>#1: She&#8217;s taller than me<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The correct structure is \u201cShe\u2019s taller than I.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the U.S., many native English speakers make this mistake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It sounds strange and pretentious so say, &#8220;She&#8217;s taller than I.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A pro tip is to add the implied verb at the end.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This way, you can say, &#8220;She&#8217;s taller than I am.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is correct grammar and avoid both the error and air of pretentiousness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-2-i-m-good\"><strong>#2: I\u2019m good<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>When answering the quesiton, &#8220;How are you,&#8221; many native speakers answer, &#8220;I&#8217;m good.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is especially common in the U.S.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because the answer really means, &#8220;I&#8217;m doing well,&#8221; the correct grammar is, &#8220;I&#8217;m well.&#8221; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This sounds pretentious to many people because <a href=\"https:\/\/www.allearsenglish.com\/interesting-english-grammar\/\">the error is so common<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-3-who-are-you-talking-to\"><strong>#3: Who are you talking to? <\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The grammar of who and whom is complicated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The correct way to say this is, &#8220;Whom are you talking to?&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Though it is not a grammar rule, many people prefer to avoid ending a sentence with a preposition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Therefore, they would say this sentence should be, &#8220;To whom are you talking?&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These three mistakes are so common in the U.S. that teachers would not correct them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You shouldn&#8217;t worry about them unless studying for a grammar exam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-connection-not-perfection\"><strong>Connection not perfection<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Taking on the challenge of learning a foreign language makes a person confident and brave.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a learner, make sure your teacher understands your goals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The teacher should align the support they provide with your goals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If they don&#8217;t, speak up, share your goals, and find out their plan for helping you achieve them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If your goal is improved fluency, focus on connection, not perfection!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-takeaway\"><strong>Takeaway<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Make sure your teacher is clear about your English learning goals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Correcting grammar, especially minor errors or those <a href=\"https:\/\/www.allearsenglish.com\/english-grammar-mistakes-to-avoid\/\">accepted in colloquial speech<\/a>, can be demotivating and stunt your progress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Talk to your teacher and make sure they are helping you reach your goals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Have you experienced excessive corrections in your English learning journey?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Share your experience in the comments below.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Should your English teacher correct every mistake you make?
