the entire two minutes!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You need to know what the Examiner is listening for and you need strategies!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today we&#8217;ll answer two listener questions about Speaking Part 2.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You&#8217;ll learn tips and strategies to score highly on this part of the IELTS exam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:47px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" question.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This card includes suggestions of what to talk about in your answer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A student asked about suggestions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Do I have to cover the four prompts given with the topics card to increase my score?<\/p>\n<cite>Jo\u00e3o<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:47px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-ignore-the-prompts\"><strong>Ignore the prompts!<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>There is nothing in the scoring system about the prompts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Examiner doesn&#8217;t care if you answer them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You must be strategic about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.allearsenglish.com\/ielts-energy-701-sample-ielts-part-2-answers-photographs\/\">Speaking Part 2<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you stick to the suggestions on the card, it will be difficult to speak for two minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Your answer could also be quite disjointed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can, of course, answer these questions if you want.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, this can lower scores if you aren&#8217;t able to provide enough detail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:47px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-to-do-instead\"><strong>What to do instead<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Tell a story!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can ignore the prompts entirely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Examiner might not even read them and know what they are.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is because it&#8217;s not required for you to answer them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is much easier to speak for 2 minutes if you tell a story.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You will be able to share vast amounts of detail about what happened.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:47px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-question-2-what-structure-to-use\"><strong>Question #2: What structure to use?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The second question we received was about the structure of answers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a recent episode we shared structure for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.allearsenglish.com\/ielts-energy-1343-speaking-part-1-vocabulary-for-dithering\/\">Speaking Part 1<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A listener saw this on YouTube and asked for similar structures for the rest of the exam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Can you suggest same structure for part 2 and part 3<\/p>\n<cite>@user-to5fj1nj1z<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Today we&#8217;ll share the optimal structure for Part 2.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In an upcoming episode, we&#8217;ll provide strategies for structuring Part 3 answers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:47px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-structure-part-2-with-a-story\"><strong>Structure Part 2 with a story<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The best way to fill two minutes is to tell a story.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The structure is simple: share what happened before, during and after.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can begin your answer by explaining what led up to the event you&#8217;re telling a story about.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Next, you share what happened with a lot of detail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lastly, provide the outcome and result.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If needed, pivot your answer to fill the entire 2 minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.allearsenglish.com\/speaking-answer-about-soccer\/\">sample Part 2 answer<\/a> in the podcast episode.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Describe a song that\u2019s very meaningful to you.<br>You should address:<br>The name of the song.<br>Who sings it.<br>What the song is about.<br>And explain why the song is meaningful to you.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>She isn&#8217;t given the prompts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Instead, she tells a story about the song she was named after.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:47px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-aubrey-s-sample-answer\"><strong>Aubrey&#8217;s sample answer<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>One of her earliest memories is being woken by her father to hear it on the radio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Notice that as part of the story she does end up answering the prompts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, she isn&#8217;t limited to those prompts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She shares a lot of interesting detail about the song and her memory of the first time she heard it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:47px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-takeaway\"><strong>Takeaway<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The best strategy for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.allearsenglish.com\/ielts-energy-474-stuck-6-speaking-part-2\/\">Speaking Part 2<\/a> is to tell a story.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you stick to the prompts, your answer will likely be too short.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is not required in the scoring system to answer them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Structure your answer by sharing what happened before, during and
