or &#8216;the amount of people?&#8217;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Likely you have heard native English speakers use both!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is a common error in English.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For a countable noun like &#8216;people,&#8217; or &#8216;advices.&#8217;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because this noun is uncountable, you would instead say &#8216;advice.&#8217;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is already plural so you cannot add an &#8216;s&#8217; to make it plural.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It cannot be singular so you cannot add &#8216;an&#8217; before it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-quantifiers-for-uncountable-nouns\"><strong>Quantifiers for uncountable nouns<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Specific quantifiers are used for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.allearsenglish.com\/ielts-energy-1152-3-ways-uncountable-nouns-ruin-ielts-grammar-scores\/\">uncountable nouns<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>a great deal of  <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>a huge amount of<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>much<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>The amount of money spent on food alone is staggering!<br>A great deal of anticipation is always felt during this time of year.<br>Much concern is felt over planning entertaining activities.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-countable-nouns\"><strong>Countable nouns<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Things that can be counted are countable nouns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>people<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>individuals<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>news stories<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>problems<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>advantages<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>sales<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>choices<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>For any of these, the quantifier &#8216;a number of&#8217; could be used.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-grammar-of-countable-nouns\"><strong>Grammar of countable nouns<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The grammar is much more straightforward for these nouns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They have both a singular and plural form.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For this reason, you can add &#8216;s&#8217; to most of them to make them plural.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>individuals<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>sales<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>choices<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>When referring to a specific, defined noun, the definite article &#8216;the&#8217; is used.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The individuals I was referring to&#8230;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The sales we made last week&#8230;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The choices he made&#8230;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Some are irregular, such as the noun &#8216;person&#8217;
