topic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s vital to take in all the English you possibly can.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The broader the range of our experience, the better we&#8217;ll be able to apply it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you first learn a skill such as informal vs. formal vocabulary, you can then apply it as you learn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-language-skills-are-connected\"><strong>Language skills are connected<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Steve shares that he never works on one skill at a time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Each is linked and more powerful when combined.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Listening is linked to speaking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Reading is also linked to speaking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In preparing for IELTS, everything seems isolated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You often practice for each exam individually.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, no English skill exists on its own.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When we read, we say it in our minds or read it aloud.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-reading-to-improve-writing\"><strong>Reading to improve writing<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Steve shares that reading greatly improves writing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is especially true for punctuation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As we read, we observe correct punctuation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We gradually improve our ability to use <a href=\"https:\/\/www.allearsenglish.com\/ielts-energy-1084-punctuation-mistakes-that-give-you-a-band-6\/\">correct punctuation<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is also true for spelling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The more we see words spelled correctly the better we spell when we write.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-use-a-formula\"><strong>Use a formula<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Steve points out that for all writing we need to use a formula.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For IELTS Task 2 essays, your formula is an introduction, 2 body paragraphs and a conclusion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Whatever you are writing, you don&#8217;t want to create disorganized writing that is difficult for the reader.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is especially true for IELTS in order to score highly on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.allearsenglish.com\/ielts-energy-860-when-grammar-matters-2-dont-abhor-therefore\/\">Cohesion\/Coherence<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, IELTS isn&#8217;t the only reason you are learning to write.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You want to be able to perform well in your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.allearsenglish.com\/ielts-energy-1128-3-tips-for-thriving-abroad-with-kate-johnson\/\">life after IELTS<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-the-importance-of-output\"><strong>The importance of output<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Many students are comfortable learning passively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Listening to podcasts, watching TV in English and taking in English might feel easy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, you must also create output.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.allearsenglish.com\/quiet-as-a-mouse-on-ielts\/\">You must be speaking and writing to prepare for
