I\u2019m super happy that I found your podcast and started listening to them. I listen to your podcast every day when I commute to work. I really see the difference in my English level before and after listening. In my daily life, I have a problem with English words related to different characteristics of people and the right way to point to those characteristics. For example, I don\u2019t know what I should call a person who cares about cleanliness a lot in a good way. Can you please make a podcast about different characteristics? <\/em><\/p>\n<cite><em><strong>Bahar<\/strong><\/em><\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Surprisingly, there are very few positive words in English that describe someone who values cleanliness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Most phrases describing this have a negative implication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today we&#8217;ll share words for characteristics of people who are clean and tidy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-1-fastidious\">#<strong>1: Fastidious<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This means someone who has their property or possessions clean and in order at all times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is a positive way to say a person looks after their belongings and values a clean space.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is not used often by native English speakers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>Example:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>She is very fastidious. She doesn\u2019t go to bed without tidying up her house.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-2-type-a\">#<strong>2: Type A<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Type A can mean many things, including leadership ability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This often means a person can be really critical.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If someone is &#8216;Type A&#8217; about being clean, it means they insist on cleanliness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For the most part, calling someone &#8216;Type A&#8217; doesn&#8217;t have a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.allearsenglish.com\/four-enthusiasm-idioms-in-english\/\">positive connotation<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-3-stickler-for-cleanliness\">#<strong>3: Stickler for cleanliness<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This means someone finds it important to be clean and prioritizes it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To be a stickler means you are someone who insists on a certain behavior or manner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can be a stickler for honesty or for being on time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>Example:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>He is a stickler for cleanliness, so it drives him crazy that his roommates leave clothes everywhere.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-4-neat-freak\">#<strong>4: Neat freak<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This has a negative connotation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This means you are extremely tidy and very clean.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You care about it too much, to the point that some may find it annoying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This can be used as an insult but it depends on the context.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You have to be careful about how to use it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here is an example that doesn\u2019t sound negative and is indirect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>Example:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>My daughter is not exactly a neat freak so I\u2019m constantly asking her to clean her room.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-5-germaphobe\">#<strong>5: Germaphobe<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This also has a negative ring to it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Depending on the context, it can sound very critical.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is used to describe someone who is paranoid about germs and wants to be clean all the time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>Example:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>I always use disinfectant spray on the counter since I am a bit of a germaphobe.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Tip when describing someone<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>It can be easy to offend someone when you are describing their personality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You wouldn\u2019t want to have this break a connection you\u2019ve been trying to build.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s important to make sure you use the right words so you <a href=\"https:\/\/www.allearsenglish.com\/aee-1719-9-dangerous-english-cliches-you-should-avoid\/\">don\u2019t hurt someone\u2019s feelings<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can use the word \u2018self-proclaimed\u2019 plus the trait to describe someone if it&#8217;s something they&#8217;ve said about themselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This removes the accusation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It makes it very light and indirect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is a very advanced way to not offend someone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Roleplay<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Here is a quick roleplay from Lindsay and Aubrey using the words shared in today\u2019s episode.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this scenario, Lindsay and Aubrey are college friends who are talking about their new roommates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>Aubrey:<\/strong> I\u2019ve never considered myself a neat freak but it\u2019s driving me crazy how messy my roommate is.<br><strong>Lindsay: <\/strong>Oh no!
