been doing with learning the Arabic language.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lindsay shares that she excited to finally be able to start learning Arabic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It has been refreshing and humbling to learn a new language.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She is taking a trip to Cairo, Egypt in May, which is the reason she decided to learn Arabic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It has been challenging since she is also running a business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, she has found a way to keep learning despite her busy schedule.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Four key learnings from studying a new language<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s never easy to learn a new language.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you know what to focus on, the journey becomes easier and more structured.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The All Ears English team always advises everyone to focus on connection, not perfection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the end of the day, the best reason to learn a new language is to be able to connect and build relationships with new people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lindsay has learned four key things studying Arabic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She wants to share it with the All Ears English listeners who are busy professionals and are learning English.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-1-lesson-length\">#<strong>1: Lesson length<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Lindsay has found that instead of taking a 45-minute class, it&#8217;s often preferable to do a 30-minute session.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This works better for her because it fits in with her busy schedule in a work day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This way, if you book a 30-minute meeting, you can squeeze a 30-minute language learning session in between meetings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you take the 45-minute session it doesn\u2019t fit in seamlessly since work meetings don&#8217;t begin on the quarter hour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because of this, it can cause you to waste 15 minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a professional, making time for a lesson during a work day when possible is more efficient.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You are then able to do your work and not hinder your pacing when learning a new language.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-2-refer-to-notes-when-needed\"><strong>#2: Refer to notes when needed<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>When you first start a language, writing out role plays and practicing them can be very helpful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This will help you easily grasp the concept of conversations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lindsay changed her teachers along the way when she was learning Arabic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Her first teacher recommended she memorize to be able to learn, which wasn&#8217;t working for her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you have no context to the language as a beginner, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.allearsenglish.com\/aee-1793-wikipedia-english-and-why-you-shouldnt-trust-the-dictionary\/\">memorizing can be ineffective<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Her second teacher allows her to read her notes until she fully understands the language.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The notes can be taken away when she is ready to not be guided by them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-3-if-needed-change-teachers\">#<strong>3: If needed, change teachers<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>You don\u2019t have to lock yourself in with just one teacher.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Don\u2019t be afraid to switch to a mentor that can help you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In Lindsay\u2019s case, she didn\u2019t drop her first teacher because she found both are good with different styles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Her first teacher focuses on an academic approach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Her second teacher approaches learning a language with the intent of using it when traveling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She finds the different approaches very helpful so she kept them both.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can take charge of your learning and make choices that will be beneficial to you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-4-use-an-app-like-quizlet\">#<strong>4: Use an app like Quizlet<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Lindsay recommends this as an amazing resource.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s loaded with a lot of work and definitions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It has flashcards with questions and answers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This app has helped Lindsay a lot on top of going to classes with two different teachers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can never go wrong with digesting <a href=\"https:\/\/www.allearsenglish.com\/interview-bbc-learning-english-neil-edgeller\/\">more resources and using more tools<\/a> to help you learn a new language faster.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Start a conversation with a language learner<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Learning a new language is a journey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you know someone who is a beginner, it can be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.allearsenglish.com\/how-to-choose-your-english-name\/\">a great connection opportunity<\/a> to ask how it\u2019s going.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are two phrases you can use to ask someone about the status of their language learning experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>How is the (language) coming along? (Swahili, Korean, Icelandic)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>&#8216;How is the Chinese coming along?&#8217;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>&#8216;How is the French coming along?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Say something in _____________________.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>&#8216;Say something in German!&#8217;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>&#8216;Say something in Swedish!&#8217;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Roleplay<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Today\u2019s episode has been filled with tips that are very useful to all language learners and not just English language learners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lindsay has shared very good insights that you can try and adapt to your own English learning journey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here is a quick roleplay to make a connection with someone who is learning a new language.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this scenario Michelle and Lindsay are colleagues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Michelle is learning Italian to prepare for a trip to Florence and Lindsay wants to see how it\u2019s going.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Both of them are just coming out of a meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>Lindsay: <\/strong>That meeting was loooong.<br><strong>Michelle: <\/strong>Yeah it was!<br><strong>Lindsay:<\/strong> Oh, your trip to Florence is coming up, isn\u2019t it?<br><strong>Michelle:<\/strong> Yes, I can\u2019t wait! I really need a break from the daily grind.<br><strong>Lindsay: <\/strong>How is the Italian coming along?<br><strong>Michelle: <\/strong>It\u2019s going well. I love my teacher and our lessons motivate me to keep going.<br><strong>Lindsay:<\/strong> That\u2019s amazing.
