we are asking permission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, if you say, &#8216;May you&#8217; it doesn&#8217;t make sense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We wouldn&#8217;t ask for permission from someone for their own action. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Therefore, we can\u2019t use the word \u2018may\u2019 with the second person pronoun \u2018you\u2019 if making a request.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For this reason, make sure not to make the mistake of ending an email with &#8216;May you please respond.&#8217;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Ending business emails professionally<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In a recent episode, we shared how to tell someone in an email that you need them to take immediate action. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Check out episode <a href=\"https:\/\/www.allearsenglish.com\/urgency-when-you-end-business-emails\/\">1845: How to Show Urgency When You End Business Emails<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In that episode, we focus on phrases for communicating urgency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, not every email needs urgent action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You also need phrases to end a non-urgent email.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s important to know phrases that show respect for the recipient&#8217;s time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today we share ways to end less urgent business emails professionally. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>#1: Could you please respond when you have a chance?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>There are alternatives to the inappropriate &#8216;May you.&#8217;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These include &#8216;could you,&#8217; &#8216;would you&#8217; or &#8216;can you.&#8217;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Adding &#8216;when you have a chance&#8217; shows <a href=\"https:\/\/www.allearsenglish.com\/aee-1886-four-phrases-to-avoid-being-dismissive-in-english%ef%bf%bc\/\">you respect their time<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It indicates that what you need from them is not extremely urgent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s not too pushy and has a very friendly and cooperative tone. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>#2: Would you please get back to me ASAP?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This should be used sparingly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It really depends on the urgency and importance of the email you sent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When you say something needs to be done ASAP, you\u2019re letting the recipient know that their response is critical. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you use &#8216;ASAP&#8217; with every email, your colleagues won&#8217;t know what is truly urgent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>#3: Can you please let me know right away? <\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This can be used when you need them to respond as soon as they can.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is slightly more direct than &#8216;Could you please respond\u2026&#8217;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There is a certain force in the tone when you use this at the end of your email.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is not rude or intense but shows a bit more urgency. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Avoid &#8216;will you please&#8217;<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This is not recommended as a phrase to use in your emails. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is very forward and sounds very demanding. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It can make you sound rude and disrespectful. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Additionally, there are so many more <a href=\"https:\/\/www.allearsenglish.com\/aee-1888-be-concise-confident-and-clear-in-business-english\/\">respectful and appropriate phrases<\/a> to use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Instead, use one of the phrases we recommended today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Informal options to use in business emails <\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The phrases shared previously are used for more formal emails. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can use them when emailing clients, managers or employers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You&#8217;ll also need phrases for more <a href=\"https:\/\/www.allearsenglish.com\/expression-natural-screams\/\">casual or informal emails<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can use these when emailing a friend or co-worker. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Let me know <\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This is simple and easy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is less formal than writing, &#8216;Could you please let me know.&#8217; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is an informal, shortened option. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In informal emails, we can drop words.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong><em>\u201cLet me know if any questions at all.
