Get out of here!\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is often a response to big and surprising news. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here is an example: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><strong>Michelle: <\/strong>Lindsay, I\u2019m moving to France! <\/p><p><strong>Lindsay: <\/strong>No way! <\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>When someone says, &#8220;Get out of here!&#8221; they don\u2019t literally mean for you to go away. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This phrase means you are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.allearsenglish.com\/make-predictions-in-english\/\">shocked and surprised<\/a> by what you heard. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It expresses possible disbelief.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s a very casual expression that heard especially often on the east coast of the U.S., like Boston and New York. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aside from this, there are other meanings and uses of the phrase \u2018get out of here.\u2019 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Just like the numerous expressions used in English, \u2018get out of here\u2019 is very dynamic and has many different meanings. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are a few examples: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">#1: <strong>Leave<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The first meaning is more literal. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It means to physically go away. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If said in this form it <a href=\"https:\/\/www.allearsenglish.com\/aee-1886-four-phrases-to-avoid-being-dismissive-in-english%ef%bf%bc\/\">could be rude<\/a>, but not always. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It really depends on your tone and the situation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Examples: <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><em><strong>Michelle: <\/strong>Please Lindsay forgive me! <\/em><\/p><p><em><strong>Lindsay:<\/strong> Get out of here! I don\u2019t want to talk to you anymore. <\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><em><strong>Lindsay: <\/strong>Do you need help cleaning up? <\/em><\/p><p><em><strong>Michelle: <\/strong>No, get out of here! You\u2019ve helped me so much already. I\u2019m just finishing up. <\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>You can also use \u2018get out\u2019 in a response that you\u2019re leaving or inviting someone to leave with you. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can say \u201cI have to get out of here\u201d or \u201cLet\u2019s get out of here.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>#2: You\u2019re joking!<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If said in a lighthearted way, this gives the impression you don&#8217;t believe what you heard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is the meaning in the phrase shared at the beginning of this episode. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Example: <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><em><strong>Lindsay: <\/strong>It took me 4 hours to get to work today. <\/em><\/p><p><em><strong>Michelle: <\/strong>Get outta here! <\/em><\/p><p>**Notice in this example, Michelle said \u201coutta\u201d instead of \u2018out of,\u2019 which is a contraction used commonly by native English speakers. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><em><strong>Michelle:<\/strong> Lindsay, I\u2019m never eating a french fry again. <\/em><\/p><p><em><strong>Lindsay:<\/strong> Get outta here, Michelle. <\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>#3: Shock or excite<\/strong>ment<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The character Elaine in the show Seinfeld often says \u201cGet OUT!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She usually pushes one of the other characters as she says it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This indicates she is in disbelief.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She exaggerates her <a href=\"https:\/\/www.allearsenglish.com\/nobody-doesnt-like-all-ears-english\/\">intonation<\/a> and gesture. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is a great phrase for sharing feelings of shock or excitement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Example: <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><em><strong>Lindsay: <\/strong>Michelle, I\u2019m moving into your neighborhood! <\/em><\/p><p><em><strong>Michelle: <\/strong>Get outta here!!!
