<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>This is a two-word adjective.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>In this sentence, &#8216;two-word&#8217; is a compound adjective describing the noun &#8216;adjective.&#8217;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If this description comes after the noun, the grammar is very different. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>This adjective is two words.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Here, &#8216;two&#8217; is still an adjective, but &#8216;words&#8217; is now a noun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>First-rate<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>You delivered a first-rate presentation.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>This is a very good adjective to use when you think a presentation is excellent. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These words should be learned in a chunk, as they are always compound adjectives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Therefore, they must always be hyphenated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>The presentation is first-rate.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Deep-fried Oreos<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This is a dessert that might be seen at a carnival or fair in the U.S.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aubrey shares that she makes Oreo pancakes for her children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Oreos are a popular cookie that she crushes up and puts in pancake batter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is a very sweet breakfast that is not at all healthy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is a rare treat and not something that would be eaten regularly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Absent-minded professor<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This has been the title of a movie so you may have heard it before. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAbsent-minded\u201d means a person is not always focused and their mind wanders a lot. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It can be a stereotype of professors who can be absent-minded because they are focused on their area of expertise rather than basic things like cooking or doing laundry. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Similar compound adjectives are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>closed-minded<\/li><li>narrow-minded<\/li><li>open-minded<\/li><li>level-headed<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>All these are hyphenated because they are always <a href=\"https:\/\/www.allearsenglish.com\/aee-1349-grammar-rules-complex-sentences-business\/\">used as compound adjectives<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Roleplay <\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Here is a quick roleplay to show the application of the tips shared in today\u2019s episode. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this scenario, Lindsay and Aubrey are at work and waiting for a meeting to begin. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><strong>Lindsay:<\/strong> Wow!
