How to Keep TV Show Twists a Surprise in English. <\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>#1: Can&#8217;t say I&#8217;m surprised<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Lindsay and Michelle share <a href=\"https:\/\/www.allearsenglish.com\/aee-1626-take-a-bite-out-of-the-commentary-sandwich\/\">phrases and expressions<\/a> you can use when talking about predictions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Can&#8217;t say I&#8217;m surprised <\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>When you use this phrase, you are expressing that you already know how things ended. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can use this when you watched a movie or even in real life. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The intonation is important as well in using this phrase. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It should have a \u201ctold you so\u2026\u201d feel, but be cautious with how you say it because it may come off as too judgmental. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><strong><em>Example: <\/em><\/strong><\/p><p><em>&#8220;I can&#8217;t say I&#8217;m surprised that they got together in the end.&#8221; <\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>#2: I knew that would happen <\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This is a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.allearsenglish.com\/aee-1638-time-crunches-and-business-lunches\/\">more direct phrase<\/a> to use to express that you were right about your prediction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Intonation when using this phrase is very important as well. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There should be a tone of conviction when you say it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This phrase is often used when predicting the outcome of a movie, TV show or even a sports event. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><strong><em>Example: <\/em><\/strong><\/p><p><em>&#8220;So it ended with him moving to France? I knew that would happen.&#8221; <\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">#<strong>3: I saw that one coming (a mile away) <\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>You can play around with this expression. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can say \u201cI saw that one coming\u201d or \u201cI saw that one coming a mile away.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As with today&#8217;s other phrases, you are sharing that you expected the ending or result. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><strong><em>Example: <\/em><\/strong><\/p><p><em>&#8220;The ending was good, but I saw it coming from a mile away.&#8221; <\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>#4: That was so predictable <\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This is similar to the previous phrase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Use it to say you knew what would happen. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s just a variety of expressing you aren\u2019t surprised with what happened or how something ended. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><strong><em>Example: <\/em><\/strong><\/p><p><em>&#8220;So she won. Wow, that was so predictable.&#8221; <\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Spoiler Alerts<\/strong>!<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Lindsay and Michelle talk about several shows and movies they watched recently that were predictable. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They mentioned the recent TV show that is a continuation of Sex and The City.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They felt the dialogue and plot were a bit forced, which made it very easy for them to have an idea of the ending. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>When to share your prediction<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Lindsay asks Michelle if it is appropriate for her to always express her thoughts about predictions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Michelle says it is okay but there is a limit to it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You should do it in moderation so you <a href=\"https:\/\/www.allearsenglish.com\/aee-1467-the-trick-to-giving-away-your-secrets-in-english\/\">don\u2019t sound like a know-it-all. <\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That brings such a negative vibe to your connection with peers, friends and family. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Imagine if you and your friend were watching something and she was really shocked by the ending and you said \u201cAh! I saw that one coming a mile away.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It can be annoying and condescending at the same time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>condescending<\/strong>: sounding like you believe you are superior or more knowledgable<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Lindsay recommends being tactful. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You have to be mindful of the people around you, especially when you\u2019re around a new group of friends. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You want to build your relationship and they might be annoyed if you keep ruining endings. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Roleplay <\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Now that Lindsay and Michelle have shared phrases and expressions to talk about your predictions, here is a quick roleplay to better understand how to use them. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this scenario, Lindsay and Michelle have just finished watching a TV show. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><strong>Lindsay: <\/strong>Wow, I can&#8217;t believe that happened! I thought he would. <\/p><p><strong>Michelle<\/strong>: I don&#8217;t know. That was so predictable. <\/p><p><strong>Lindsay: <\/strong>Oh ok. Well, how about the final phone call? I knew that would happen. <\/p><p><strong>Michelle:<\/strong> Yes! I agree. But it was still emotional. <\/p><p><strong>Lindsay:<\/strong> Definitely.
