When people read or heard the rover\u2019s name in the news, they came to the Cambridge Dictionary to learn what it meant. This is a great example of how the language we use is influenced by current events.\u201d -Cambridge English Dictionary blog<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>So this answers Lindsay\u2019s question wherein this decision is based on data. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Michelle continues to explain that there are some events during the year that has made people use it more or search for what it means. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What is Perseverance to You? <\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>For Lindsay, perseverance means not giving up. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s about continuing to move forward despite multiple hardships. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You keep trying even if you fail. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She also relates that perseverance is a big part of the narrative in American culture. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Michelle agrees with Lindsay on this. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She also mentions that they\u2019ve talked about this before in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.allearsenglish.com\/aee-1451\/\">episode 1451 of the All Ears English podcast: How To Be Resilient With One Key English Expression.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They talked about perseverance in a traditional way in this episode.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Michelle wants to remind us that not all situations require you to keep going. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There is value in giving up and recalibrating your plans when you hit a dead end. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is still considered perseverance to know your boundaries and when to stop and give up. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lindsay adds that when you mention perseverance, she thinks of the everyday person who is just trying to make it work. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This also applies to small business owners who took a beating for the past two years in this pandemic. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Use Perseverance Like A Native English Speaker <\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>You can use the word Perseverance in your daily conversation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are examples from Lindsay and Michelle on how to use it in a sentence: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u201cHer perseverance was what was able to get her through her job search, even though it was tough.\u201d <\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Michelle agrees that it is hard to find a job especially now. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.allearsenglish.com\/aee-1672-what-not-to-do-in-an-american-job-interview\/\">Looking for a new job<\/a> can be a full-time job in itself. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You need to have perseverance in fulfilling all that is needed to land a job. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You have to send out resumes, contact people, sit through interviews and many more. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u201cWe are about to go through a tough financial time, but with perseverance, we will succeed and get past this.\u201d <\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Lindsay shares her personal experience on this. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She recently purchased her new house. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To get to the right home she wanted, she had to look through 35 houses. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It became tiring and she was beginning to lose hope. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Their agents were optimistic and ensured she\u2019ll eventually find her dream house. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She kept going and eventually it worked out. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Is It Good to Persevere? <\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Michelle asks Lindsay if it is good to not give up all the time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Perseverance may be misunderstood because Lindsay says it matters what you are persevering for. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Her example is, if you\u2019re digging for gold, just make sure you\u2019re digging in the right spot. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is dumb to persevere and keep digging in the wrong place to dig for gold. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Michelle says it can be a very personal experience to persevere. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It can affect your mental health and impact your own life differently. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You should take a step back and consider how you feel and the entirety of the situation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As mentioned earlier, there is no shame in stopping and making adjustments. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But if after you\u2019ve assessed and decided that you must rough it out and keep going, then do that. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Both are acts of perseverance. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Remember that it is good to persevere as long as you know that you are on the right track to your end goal. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Takeaway <\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>You may be hitting a wall with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.allearsenglish.com\/aee-1699-learn-english-in-30-minutes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">learning English. <\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You might be plateauing where you are hitting a level and you\u2019re not growing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Keep persevering. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You should always push yourself and not be trapped in your own head too much. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Step out of your comfort zone. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Just like what the All Ears English team keeps saying, we strive for Connection NOT Perfection. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Find the joy in what you\u2019re doing and you\u2019ll eventually reap the fruits of your hard work. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Keep going, you\u2019re doing a great job! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What does perseverance mean to you?
