{"id":53273,"date":"2014-03-04T09:32:29","date_gmt":"2014-03-04T09:32:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/127.0.0.1\/aee\/aee-71-meeting-new-people-and-carrying-an-english-conversation\/"},"modified":"2023-04-25T15:57:22","modified_gmt":"2023-04-25T15:57:22","slug":"aee-71-meeting-new-people-and-carrying-an-english-conversation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.allearsenglish.com\/aee-71-meeting-new-people-and-carrying-an-english-conversation\/","title":{"rendered":"AEE 71: Meeting New People and Carrying an English Conversation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In today\u2019s Teaching Tuesday, we talked about yesterday\u2019s episode, where Lindsay met her co-host\u2019s roommates.<\/p>\n<p>Lindsay used some conversational strategies that are common in American culture such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Confirm the links between people in the group:<\/strong> The co-host introduced Jay and Morgan as her roommates, but Lindsay confirmed and said again, \u201cso you\u2019re roommates?\u201d when the conversation got started because it\u2019s an easy way to get the conversation going. This allowed the co-host to jump in and add more information if needed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Ask about a shared situation:<\/strong> Lindsay asked her co-host\u2019s roommates how they like the neighborhood. This is a situation that all three people (co-host, Morgan, and Jay) shared so it was easy for anyone to participate. This is another great way to keep the conversation moving.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Ask about someone\u2019s job:<\/strong> This is very common, especially in the United States.
