{"id":52758,"date":"2015-10-20T01:46:45","date_gmt":"2015-10-20T01:46:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/127.0.0.1\/aee\/writing-task-1-sentence-structures\/"},"modified":"2023-04-25T16:10:56","modified_gmt":"2023-04-25T16:10:56","slug":"writing-task-1-sentence-structures","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.allearsenglish.com\/writing-task-1-sentence-structures\/","title":{"rendered":"IELTS Energy 138: Three Sentence Structures to Conquer Writing Task 1"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Wondering how you can impress the examiner on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.allearsenglish.com\/ielts-writing\/\">IELTS Writing Task 1<\/a>?<\/p>\n<p>Today we\u2019ll give you three sentence structures that are very high level and will get you the target score that you need for your grammar score in this task.<\/p>\n<p>This is the most important thing to consider when it comes to <a href=\"\/ielts\/ielts-energy-grammar-speaking-test\/\">grammar on the IELTS<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Remember that on Task 1 you will have to write about numbers and you need to show your ability to compare the numbers.<\/p>\n<p>Today you\u2019ll get two different complex structures and a compound structure.<\/p>\n<p>On test day you don\u2019t have to take risks.<\/p>\n<p>Just use these structures and you\u2019ll do fine.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Grammar structures:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Structure #1)<\/strong> \u201cAs X increases, Y decreases.\u201d- this is higher level because most students don\u2019t use \u201cas.\u201d\n<ul>\n<li>Sample: \u201cAs the population of Taiwan increased to hit 20 million in 2014, the population of Cambodia decreased to hit 500,000.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Structure #2)<\/strong> \u201cIn contrast to Y increasing, X actually decreased.\u201d- here if you use \u201cactually\u201d it further emphasizes the contrast. It sounds more high level if you use this word.\n<ul>\n<li>Sample: In contrast to the population in Taiwan increasing, the population of Cambodia actually decreased at the same time.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Structure #3)<\/strong> \u201cY increased; however, X decreased\u201d\n<ul>\n<li>Sample: \u201cThe population of Taiwan increased; however, the population of Cambodia decreased.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>How can you practice these?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Look for graphs in the media. Look at The Economist or The Wall Street Journal and try to apply these sentence structures to what you see. Take a graph about sales, population, politics, the economy, stock prices and write out what you see using these structures.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>In our course we go into more depth on how to create these sentence structures and more.
