The biggest fear of mine when it comes to IELTS is the reading module. I actually cannot figure out the sequence of what to do first. Should I read the whole passage first, or just see the questions and start scanning for the key words? Either way I am unable to get the desired outcome<\/em>.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

What jumps out immediately<\/strong> to us is that this student needs a system. He needs a simple step-by-step strategy to get the reading answers<\/a>.<\/p>\n

What should you do first on the IELTS Reading Exam?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The answer is to skim<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The good news is that you already know how to do this. People often skim the newspaper<\/a>, because they don\u2019t have time to read every word of every article. I do this with the New York Times<\/a>, when I just read the beginning of the article to find out if I want to read more.<\/p>\n

Why should you skim?<\/strong><\/p>\n

This is not to find answers. This is to warm up your brain<\/strong> so you get the gist<\/strong>, or the topic of the article, before you look at the questions.<\/p>\n

If you don\u2019t do this, and, instead, go straight to the questions, you\u2019ll have to read them a couple times. This wastes precious time!<\/strong><\/p>\n
