What is the strategy to skim when we have reading passages consisting of 5+ sections of 3 to 4 small and big paragraphs. Is it still OK to read the first 2 to 3 lines?<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Not every passage looks exactly the same<\/strong>. Thus, you have to use your common sense and be flexible with the reading strategies<\/a>.<\/p>\n

If it\u2019s a short paragraph<\/strong>, of 4-5 lines, you can just read the first line<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

If it\u2019s a long paragraph<\/strong>, then read the first 3 lines<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

For an average size paragraph<\/strong>, read the first 2 lines<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Do you know what a \u2018normal\u2019 size paragraph is in an IELTS Reading passage<\/a>? Do more test practice, so you learn what to expect from your IELTS Exam<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The usual strategy<\/a>, when there is only one paragraph, is to match a heading to the beginning and\/or end of the paragraph<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

If there is more than one paragraph, there usually shorter<\/strong> paragraphs. So, just read the first line of the first paragraph<\/strong>, and try to get the answer. If the answer is not there, look at the end of the last paragraph<\/strong> in the section.<\/p>\n

This is because, the main idea of the section<\/strong> will be in those places.<\/p>\n

Where can I find difficult reading material to practice with?<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

It\u2019s difficult<\/strong> to find valid IELTS practice for free<\/strong>. The Cambridge books 1-4<\/strong> may be more affordable because they\u2019re older<\/strong>, but all the books are perfect test practice<\/a>.<\/p>\n
