Or do you guys have a kind of trouble trying to understand each other?<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>For example, Aussies say things and some people from outside of Australia have no clue on what they\u2019re talking about. They don\u2019t even like calling their language english, they say it\u2019s Australian.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Thank you, girls<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>All the best, Raf<\/strong><\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What percentage of Aussie English do we understand?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Americans understand around 90% of Aussie English.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Usually we can get the accent but the hardest part is random vocabulary that is Aussie specific.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Check out our Aussie guests!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Over the years we have done some great episodes with Australian guests.<\/p>\n<p>Go here to meet David Peachy.<\/p>\n<p>He gave us <a href=\"https:\/\/www.allearsenglish.com\/aee-802-3-terms-will-help-connect-australians-david-peachey\/\">three terms to help connect with Australians<\/a> and he told us <a href=\"https:\/\/www.allearsenglish.com\/aee-467-insider-answer-yeah-nah-means-australian-english-david-peachey\/\">what &#8220;yah-nah&#8221; means.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you want to hear how the pronunciation is different listen to those episodes with David.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>How vocabulary is different:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">mate<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">gday<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">bush<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">outback<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I reckon<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">yah-nah<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Even more interesting than vocabulary is what happens when words mean something different. <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Thong- in the US and England means a kind of underwear but in Australia it means a type of shoe.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Biscuit- in Australia and in England this means cookie or cracker, but biscuit has a different meaning in the US.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s fun and important to look at how words might have different meanings across English-speaking cultures.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Takeaway:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The short answer for Raf is YES, we understand each other for the most part.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It&#8217;s just like if you are from Spain, you understand someone from Argentina.
