Are you good at remembering names?<\/span><\/p>\n

Do you ever struggle to remember somebody\u2019s name when you are talking to them or referring to them?<\/p>\n

Do you have any strategies for remembering names?<\/span><\/p>\n

Do you recognize just how important it is to remember somebody\u2019s name?<\/p>\n

Today we\u2019re going to look at why it\u2019s so important to remember somebody\u2019s name and how you can master this.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

We have a question that has to do with dealing with names specifically.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Here\u2019s my question:<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

 I\u2019ve noticed that a lot of native speakers use the phrase \u201cwhat\u2019s his face \/ what\u2019s her face\u201d to talk about people when they don\u2019t want to mention their name specifically.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

They may do this because we know who they are talking about.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

I would guess that it is kind of condescending and not very nice, but maybe that\u2019s not always the case. What do you guys think about this expression? Do you use it a lot?<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Recognizing The Importance<\/strong><\/p>\n

You have to first understand just how important it is.<\/span><\/p>\n

The name that you have is your very own identification.<\/span><\/p>\n

So when somebody doesn\u2019t remember that, it shows that they may not care.<\/span><\/p>\n

It shows that they may not have taken the time to get to know you on this level.<\/span><\/p>\n

So there are two ways that I can see this phrase being used-it means \u201cwho is he\/she again\u201d basically.<\/span><\/p>\n

Some people use alliteration or remember something about the person. Sometimes I will put someone in my phone as their first name and then how I met them.<\/span><\/p>\n

This comes back to names as our identity and respecting people in general.<\/span><\/p>\n

Avoid Hurt Feelings<\/strong><\/p>\n

Saying something like \u201cwhat\u2019s his face\u201d can be so rude and disrespectful.<\/p>\n

Not only can it show that you don\u2019t remember the name, but it also shows that you don\u2019t care either.<\/p>\n

Even if you use it in a conversation<\/a> about a person in an indirect way, it can be disrespectful.<\/p>\n

If you\u2019re not sure of somebody\u2019s name, then ask around.<\/p>\n

It shows that you care if you actually take the time to learn this identification of an individual.<\/p>\n

Names are personal and important, so you want to always keep that in mind. <\/span><\/p>\n

Tips For Remembering Names<\/strong><\/p>\n

It can admittedly be hard to remember the names of EVERYONE you know.<\/p>\n

If you forget somebody\u2019s name you may feel guilty which can lead to negative feelings around the person.<\/p>\n

  1. Really pay attention when being introduced<\/em>. Think about the person\u2019s name \u2013remind yourself to listen for it. I so often will hear someone\u2019s name and then realize I forgot it two seconds later\u2013I wasn\u2019t really listening! Maybe I was focused on a smile or what they were wearing. Listen! <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

     <\/p>\n

      \n
    1. When the person tells you their name, look at them and repeat the name three times silently\u2013or even repeat it out loud if you can<\/em>. If you repeat it in your head, then you can keep saying silently until it\u2019s stuck in your memory. If you say it out loud, repeat it just once and then look them in the eyes. This may help you to make a real tangible connection you can hold onto and look back on. <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      You may find other tips or strategies help, but this is a good start.<\/p>\n

      Just remember that a name is an important part of somebody\u2019s identity and that you never want to underestimate it.<\/p>\n

      It IS important to know and USE other people\u2019s names. <\/span><\/p>\n

      Saying \u201cwhat\u2019s his or her face\u201d shows a lack of respect.<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

      It may mean that you don\u2019t like that person or that you don\u2019t care enough to learn their name.<\/span><\/p>\n

      If you don\u2019t know someone\u2019s name it\u2019s okay, but try to figure out what it is by asking or describing that person specifically. <\/span><\/p>\n

      Names are deeply important, so don\u2019t feel guilty if you forget, but make it a point to remember. <\/span><\/p>\n
