A student asked us some interesting questions recently. The first one was:<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cCan you tell me a good program or app to record myself<\/strong> so I can improve my pronunciation<\/strong> and practice speaking?\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

You don\u2019t need<\/strong> a special app<\/strong> for this.<\/p>\n

Every phone comes with a voice memo function<\/strong> to record yourself.<\/p>\n

Find it on your phone. Then, find a clip on YouTube of an expressive native speaker<\/a> that you want to emulate<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Watch it for 5-10 seconds<\/strong>. Then, record yourself trying to copy<\/strong> the native. Listen to them back to back<\/strong> to compare.<\/p>\n

This doesn\u2019t necessitate a native speaker to tutor<\/a> you. Trust your ears<\/strong>, and do your best to sound like the person in the clip.<\/p>\n

The second question was:<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cI searched a lot on the internet. Most of the courses for IELTS focus on the 4 skills, but I don\u2019t see grammar<\/strong> in them. I wonder why?<\/strong> Do we already need to have all the grammar studied? I\u2019ve studied grammar for a long time, but I need to refresh<\/strong> it. I heard a podcast where you said grammar wasn\u2019t important<\/a>, so perhaps that\u2019s the reason.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

It\u2019s not exactly<\/strong> that grammar isn\u2019t important. It\u2019s just that you can\u2019t improve that score a lot<\/strong> by only studying for a month or two.<\/p>\n

Approach it strategically<\/strong>. For good grammar scores,<\/strong> you need many perfect sentences<\/strong> and a variety of sentence structures<\/a>.<\/p>\n

You don\u2019t need a huge variety<\/strong>, though. It\u2019s smarter on your part to learn specific structures<\/strong>, such as those in 3 Keys IELTS<\/a>, then just use those correctly on your exam.<\/p>\n
