This is a broad reaching phrase because it\u2019s intended to cover a lot of area or different people.\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cPeople all over the world watched the World Cup this year. It\u2019s a huge event.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><em>Around the world:&nbsp;<\/em>This sounds a bit more academic&nbsp; in nature. It might be a little less intense than \u201call over the world\u201d.&nbsp; It is intended to be used in a broad way too, but it has a different context or approach. This phrase is very similar to \u201call over the world\u201d, but isn\u2019t used as much in conversation.\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cAround the world there has been a focus on healthy eating.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><em>In the world:<\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&nbsp;This can be more general. You can often add this onto other phrases. You are trying to convey a point, but it\u2019s not as intense or far reaching as the first two phrases. It\u2019s more of a generalization when used in conversation.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u201cPollution has been a problem in the world for many years.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You can also add this on for other phrases&nbsp; and say something like \u201cWhat in the world are you talking about?\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><em>In many parts of the world:&nbsp;<\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is not as elaborate or extensive as&nbsp; \u201call over the world\u201d. It could be used to make sure you aren\u2019t stereotyping. You may be softening a statement by using \u201cin many parts\u201d in a sentence. <\/span>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cIn many parts of the world, people love eating pizza.\u201d <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Similar phrases that mean slightly different things can be hard at first, but you\u2019ll get the hang of them if you practice.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Knowing How To Use These and Add Onto Them<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Basically, these phrases are VERY similar. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some are more general, some you can use pretty much interchangeably. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s best to focus on listening to those around you and see how they use it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>There is one more phrase to learn that relates and can be used with these other phrases.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The phrase is \u201c(What a) Small world!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This phrase is used to talk about coincidences. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>It may not be used quite as often, but it shows that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.allearsenglish.com\/aee-564-coincidences-really-exist-talk-english\/\">coincidences happen often.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>You might say something like \u201cOh I know Heather too, she was in class with me.
