It can show what you use to get something done as well.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Together\u2013who or what are you doing something with?<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cI am celebrating New Year\u2019s Eve WITH some of my friends. \u201c<\/li>\n<li>\u201cI decorate my house WITH lights for the holiday season.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Using BY: This helps to give you the final detail in a thought or sentence. It is the way in which something gets done.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The METHOD, how something happens,&nbsp; or the way it gets done<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cI do most of my cooking for the holidays BY following my grandmother\u2019s recipes (common with -ing).<\/li>\n<li>\u201cMy best friend is coming in for the holidays BY train.\u201d(common with transportation)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>You may use this in the passive sense, to show that something happened and how it occurred.\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cThe cake was baked BY Lindsay.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>You may use it to indicate distance or proximity.\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cThere is parking by my house.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Using In Real Life Conversations<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As with anything, this takes practice.<\/p>\n<p>Sometimes you can get a feel for this if you listen to somebody speaking and using each of these options.<\/p>\n<p>You may make some mistakes and use the wrong one from time to time, but you just keep at it until you get used to it.<\/p>\n<p>Here are some examples that make it clear so you can see which one you would use and why.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cI eat my lunch with a fork.\u201d (WHAT you are using)<\/li>\n<li>\u201cThere is some wiggle room WITH our deadline.\u201d (together)<\/li>\n<li>\u201cThere were several simultaneous attacks by the rebels.\u201d (passive)<\/li>\n<li>\u201cI ordered a side of pumpkin pie WITH my dinner.\u201d (if I said by it would be next to)<\/li>\n<li>\u201cI love the new Christmas song BY Kelly Clarkson.\u201d&nbsp; (SHE wrote it)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Takeaway<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.allearsenglish.com\/english-chunks-no-prepositions\/\">English prepositions<\/a> can be tricky but it helps to keep the general guidelines in mind.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The word \u201cwith\u201d is often together, by is often transportation, method,&nbsp; or passive.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>These rules can really help us to remember when to use which one.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Listen to how these are used\u2013it can be confusing sometimes to be sure so just pay attention.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Remember it\u2019s never about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.allearsenglish.com\/aee-600-celebrate-600-dont-write-off-connection-pursuit-perfection\/\">perfection<\/a> so just continue to practice and you\u2019ll get the hang of it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Using these in conversation really helps, and you can see how it feels and sounds.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>If you have any questions, please leave them below in the comments section.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>We\u2019ll get back to you as soon as we can.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Do you eat your pizza with a fork or do you use your hands?
