This comes through really well and sets the right tone.<\/p>\n<p>Step 2: Explain what may happen over the course of the call so that they are prepared. This shows concern and is a very honest depiction of what may happen while the two of you are talking.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cI\u2019m so happy to talk. I just have to warn you, I may have to jump off in a sec because\u2026.(I\u2019m about to run into the store to grab stufff for dinner)\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cGreat to hear from you! I can only talk for a few minutes because\u2026\u2026,(example\u2013I\u2019m waiting for a call from my boss) &nbsp;but let\u2019s talk until I have to go!\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cI\u2019m so happy to hear from you! Just a heads up that the kids are acting up and I may have to cut things short.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div style=\"height:61px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n<p><em><strong>When you have to get off the phone<\/strong><\/em><strong>:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Apologize and be honest and sincere<\/li>\n<li> Explain why you have to get off the phone so that they understand<\/li>\n<li>Make a plan if possible to talk later or call back so that you show continued interest<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cSorry I gotta run now. (explanation\u2013example, the baby just started crying)\u2013can we talk later?\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cOh man, I have to go. (explanation\u2013example, my boss is calling).\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cCan I call you back in _____?
