You would use the phrase \u201cget this\u201d to introduce something really exciting or out of the ordinary.<\/p>\n

You might use it to say something like you met Lady Gaga or something really fun, interesting, or unique.<\/p>\n

We want people to hear us and to recognize that there is value in what we are telling them.<\/p>\n

Recognizing that, there are other ways to get that same sort of reaction besides \u201cget this.\u201d<\/p>\n

  1. Listen to this<\/strong><\/em>: <\/strong>You\u2019re trying to get attention and this is a pretty direct way to do so. You are actually saying to literally listen to what it is that you have to say. When you put a phrase out there like this then people can\u2019t help but listen to what you have to say. \u201cListen to this\u2013I gained 5 pounds this month, but my trainer says it\u2019s all muscle!\u201d<\/li>\n
  2. You\u2019ll never believe this (one<\/strong><\/em>): <\/strong>What you are telling them may seem unbelievable or it may just be a good tactic for getting their attention. This can be a helpful phrase to use with something that is sarcastic, outlandish, or even frustrating. This is all about the tone of voice that you use to deliver the message. \u201cYou\u2019ll never believe this one\u2013my boss totally screwed up the meeting time and now we all have to stay late.\u201d<\/li>\n
  3. You gotta hear this<\/strong><\/em>: <\/strong>What you are telling them is bound to be of interest to them. It\u2019s something that happened to you that they can relate to or perhaps that they won\u2019t believe. It\u2019s another great phrase to get a reaction out of because what you are telling the person calls for that reaction. \u201cYou gotta hear this\u2013my flight doesn\u2019t leave until 11 am but I have to get there at 6 am because my friend is worried about how long it will take to get through security!\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    All of these phrases are bound to get a reaction and therefore work quite effectively when you are in that situation.<\/p>\n

    Be sure that you use the right tone of voice with them to make the perfect delivery\u2014this is a great tactic for making connections through conversation!<\/p>\n
