Today is the<strong> first in a series<\/strong> based on my conversations with these <strong>insiders<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>biggest recent change<\/strong> on the exam is that examiners must <strong>start the recording as soon as the student walks<\/strong> <strong>in the room<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>This virtually <strong>eliminates <\/strong>any opportunity for <strong>relaxed small talk<\/strong>. This may be due to <a href=\"\/ielts\/ielts-energy-726-unacceptable-ielts-examiner-behavior\/\">some examiners not following correct procedure<\/a> on the exam, and IELTS wanting <strong>more monitoring<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>For you, candidate, this means you should try to <strong>engage in small talk<\/strong> with the other <strong>students <\/strong>in the <strong>waiting room<\/strong>, before your Speaking Exam.<\/p>\n<p>You could just say, <strong><em>\u201cI\u2019m kinda nervous. It\u2019s 100% guaranteed.<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<div style=\"height:65px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n<p>My examiner friend also noted that in <strong>recent training<\/strong>, another issue was corrected. <\/p>\n<p>Some examiners who teach in <strong>university <\/strong>will give IELTS candidates marks that are too <strong>low<\/strong>, because they are <strong>comparing the candidate<\/strong> to their <strong>university students<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>If you are <a href=\"\/ielts\/ielts-energy-733-laurita-ielts-8-5\/\">100% sure that your writing score is too low, you can ask for a remark<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Another thing my examiner contact noted was that students with a <strong>very high level of English<\/strong>, like Indian candidates, were <strong>not getting the highest scores<\/strong>. This is surprising because their <strong>English was so good<\/strong>, but they <strong>weren\u2019t <\/strong><a href=\"\/ielts\/ielts-energy-713-near-native-andrea-ielts\/\">preparing for the exam well<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>For <a href=\"\/ielts\/3-tips-ielts-bar-charts\/\">IELTS Task 1, bar graphs are becoming more common<\/a>.
