It\u2019s 100% guaranteed!<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<div style=\"height:45px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n<h3><strong>Transitions to use on IELTS instead of e.g. and i.e.<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>namely<\/strong>: use this when you are naming something specific you just referred to<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Several companies do this very well; namely, Walmart, Amazon and FedEx.<\/p>\n<p>We see students use this linking word incorrectly.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.allearsenglish.com\/ielts\/ielts-energy-839-your-ielts-synonyms-are-erroneous-ex-examiner\/\">Be sure you are certain you know what they mean!<\/a><\/p>\n<p>They do each have meaning.<\/p>\n<p>With namely, you must be naming something you previously referred to.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>a case in point is<\/strong>: use this to provide a specific example<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Many companies do this well. A case in point is Amazon.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>more specifically<\/strong>: a parallel to \u201ca case in point is\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div style=\"height:47px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n<h3><strong>What else should you avoid using in IELTS Writing?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Don\u2019t use parentheses!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.allearsenglish.com\/ielts\/ielts-energy-885-when-grammar-matters-10-the-best-condition-for-speaking-part-2\/\">These make you miss good grammar opportunities.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>These replace commas, and the Examiner needs to see that you are able to correctly use commas.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Don\u2019t use symbols such as $ and % to replace the word.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You can\u2019t say, \u201cThe highest % of women\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When it stands alone, you must write out \u201cpercent\u201d or \u201cpercentage.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.allearsenglish.com\/ielts\/ielts-energy-908-how-to-not-look-lazy-on-ielts-writing\/\">Use these only to accompany a number.<\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>40%<\/li>\n<li>$60<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Avoid writing \u201cetc.\u201d or \u201cet cetera\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This is too informal and makes it look like you don\u2019t have an example to write.<\/p>\n<p>This would, however, work for IELTS Speaking!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.allearsenglish.com\/aee-826-cut-fat-stop-rambling-english\/\">It will help you end an answer and avoid rambling.<\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201c\u2026and, you know, et cetera.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cI love sports!
