Have you heard somebody use the word \u201cquantity\u201d in English? <\/p>\n

Thank you for all of your help, and I just love the show! I have a question for you that I\u2019m hoping you can help with. I was writing an essay and it says something about \u201cquantity of people.\u201d <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

I mean can I use quantity as an equivalent to \u201cnumber?\u201d I assume that\u2019s what it means, but I\u2019m just not sure. I\u2019ve heard it used like quantity of students, quantity of members, but I could just use some clarification. <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Understanding How This Works<\/strong><\/h3>\n

When you look at this example, you can really use either. <\/p>\n

Our listener gave examples where each noun is countable such as in students, members, or people. <\/p>\n

You could say \u201cnumber\u201d or \u201cquantity\u201d and they both work the same. <\/p>\n

You can see how this works when you look at some helpful examples. <\/p>\n

\u201cA number of people told me they enjoyed the presentation.\u201d \u201cA small number of people asked questions.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cThe quantity of people at the party was astounding.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cA large quantity of people brought their own materials.\u201d <\/p>\n

So you see that they can really be used interchangeably because in this context, they mean the same sort of thing. <\/p>\n
