numbers and information should be reserved for body paragraphs.<\/p>\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n<h3><strong>Overall trend for Change Over Time charts<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The bar graph below is what we call a Change Over Time graph.<\/p>\n<p>This is because it shows information for multiple dates, allowing us to see how the information changed over time.<\/p>\n<p>Static essays, on the other hand show a snapshot of one moment in time.<\/p>\n<p>The overall trend for a Change Over Time will be different from a Static essay.<\/p>\n<p>You want to share what increased and decreased.<\/p>\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n<h3><strong>Time to class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>Overall, the quantity of male moviegoers skyrocketed markedly, while the amount of females plunged dramatically.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Yours does not have to match ours word for word!<\/p>\n<p>There are many ways to phrase an overall trend.<\/p>\n<p>If you didn\u2019t include specific numbers and shared what increased and decreased overall, you did it right!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.allearsenglish.com\/ielts\/ielts-energy-1017-vocabulary-for-a-massive-surge-of-ielts-scores\/\">However, notice the band 9 adverbs and verbs here.<\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>skyrocketed markedly<\/li>\n<li>plunged dramatically<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The overall trend is an excellent place to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.allearsenglish.com\/ielts\/ielts-astronomical-vocabulary-ielts-band-9\/\">boost your Vocabulary score<\/a>!<\/p>\n<div style=\"height:45px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n<h3><strong>Where should the overall trend go?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Many students ask if they should put the overall trend in a body paragraph or a conclusion.<\/p>\n<p>You are allowed to put it anywhere.<\/p>\n<p>However, there are specific reasons we recommend putting it in the introduction.<\/p>\n<p>First, you\u2019re not required to have a conclusion.<\/p>\n<p>It doesn\u2019t help your score at all.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, it takes time that would be better spent elsewhere!<\/p>\n<p>If you don\u2019t put it in the introduction, you\u2019ll only have a 1-sentence introduction.<\/p>\n<p>Paragraphs need at least 2 sentences!<\/p>\n<p>It makes the most sense to restate the topic and then provide the overall trend in the intro.<\/p>\n<div style=\"height:45px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n<h3><strong>Question #2: What is the trend?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>You may see that an overall trend is required by the scoring system, but not know how to look at a chart and figure out what it is!<\/p>\n<p>The overall trend is what is being shown overall in the graph or chart.<\/p>\n<p>You need to understand the function of the graphs.<\/p>\n<p>There are only 2.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Change Over Time<\/li>\n<li>Static<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For <a href=\"https:\/\/www.allearsenglish.com\/ielts\/ielts-energy-685-change-your-change-over-time-vocab-for-an-ielts-9\/\">Change Over Time<\/a>, the overall trend describes the change.<\/p>\n<p>Does it go up or go down?<\/p>\n<p>For static, the function is comparing numbers.<\/p>\n<p>The trend will be the highest and the lowest numbers.<\/p>\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n<h3><strong>An error to avoid<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>You might have two charts that show very different information.<\/p>\n<p>A Task 1 we saw recently showed reasons adults decide to study in a bar graph.<\/p>\n<p>A pie chart is also given that shows how people think these costs should be shared.<\/p>\n<p>You cannot say in your overall trend, \u201cOverall, both illustrations demonstrate\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This is because they\u2019re showing such different information!<\/p>\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n<h3><strong>Strategy for 2 charts<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Whenever there are 2 or more images, you will need 2 clauses or 2 sentences for your overall trend.<\/p>\n<p>You can\u2019t put them all together, or it makes your overall trend inaccurate.<\/p>\n<p>This pulls your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.allearsenglish.com\/ielts\/ielts-writing-scores-revealed-task-achievementresponse\/\">Task Response score<\/a> down to a 5!<\/p>\n<p>A template for this can be:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>Overall, [overall trend for bar graph]; in addition, [overall trend for pie chart].<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<div style=\"height:47px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n<h2><strong>Takeaway<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>When it comes to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.allearsenglish.com\/ielts\/ielts-video-directional-vocabulary-for-ielts-academic-task-1-map-questions\/\">Academic Task 1<\/a>, it\u2019s vital you know how to write an accurate overall trend.<\/p>\n<p>This is one of the hardest things about IELTS, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.allearsenglish.com\/ielts\/ielts-academic-task-1-raise-score-7\/\">because most of us have never analyzed charts before!<\/a><\/p>\n<p>You need strategies that make it easy!<\/p>\n<p>You must understand the function of the graphs and for each one, what that means for the <a
