Different Ways To Say The Same Sort of Thing<\/strong><\/h3>\n

So today we are looking at a very important concept, which is how to answer strongly and clearly in the affirmative before you give your explanation. <\/p>\n

In other words, this is about how to say yes to something quickly and with great emphasis.<\/p>\n

There are times when you want to offer this up, and you want to say yes but perhaps in a different way.<\/p>\n

This is something that was discussed a bit in the past, and it\u2019s a great topic to look at and understand. <\/p>\n

This episode was inspired by our listener Adiana from Clubhouse.<\/p>\n

We reviewed this concept in a previous episode, and it\u2019s definitely something you will want to check out.<\/p>\n

The Three Step Formula To Expressing Yourself In English<\/a><\/p>\n

So the opening part of the framework is a quick answer, and that\u2019s the focus here.<\/p>\n

This episode could give vocabulary for answering yes, and that\u2019s an interesting concept instead of just saying the word.<\/p>\n

This adds a bit of excitement and makes for an interesting way to express this sort of thing.<\/p>\n

An example of this would be to ask a question such as \u201cDo citizens have an obligation to protect the environment?\u201d<\/p>\n

Rather than just saying yes to this, you can add a bit more with words such as absolutely, for sure, no doubt, definitely.<\/p>\n

Looking At How To Use This<\/strong><\/h3>\n

So why not just say yes?<\/p>\n

The truth is that you could answer yes to such questions, but sometimes you want it to be a bit more interesting than just that.<\/p>\n

Let\u2019s remember what the formula is that we discussed in episode 1571. <\/p>\n

It can help you to remember why you are saying this and how this can work for you in your conversations.<\/p>\n

Today we will go over how to quickly answer yes\u2013because in reality sometimes you just want to get to the answer RIGHT away! <\/p>\n

Of course, listen to the episode for the whole formula and some helpful background, but you can see how to apply this within this episode.<\/p>\n

You have to basically decide if you need or want to use the whole thing, because sometimes you can just use one of these words and it works out perfectly!<\/p>\n

Go through everything so that you can understand the similarities and differences, but it comes down to showing a greater emphasis for something.<\/p>\n

There are times when you want to express that or when you have bigger opinions on things.<\/p>\n

There may be deeper discussions that warrant this sort of exclamation.<\/p>\n

There may be times when it\u2019s centered on more casual things, like if you ask somebody if they can do something for you.<\/p>\n

So you can start to understand when you may want that deeper expression, and now it\u2019s time to see how this can all work.<\/p>\n

We will take a look at the words or phrases that you may use, and how you could use each one in conversation.<\/p>\n

This will help you to see how you can use it and make this a part of your conversations.<\/p>\n

Roleplays For Different Situations<\/strong><\/h3>\n

There are different times when you may want to use this.<\/p>\n

We\u2019re going to look at each word or phrase, and then how it would play out in a roleplay for each.<\/p>\n

This can help you to understand how it would work, and then you can begin using this in your conversations.<\/p>\n

Absolutely<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Lindsay: \u201cDo citizens have an obligation to protect the environment?\u201d
Michelle: \u201cAbsolutely! We live here and want to make it safe for generations to come\u2026.\u201d<\/p>\n

For sure<\/em><\/strong>
Michelle: \u201cShould dog owners receive fines if they don\u2019t pick up after their dog?\u201d
Lindsay: \u201cFor sure. It\u2019s not fair and it\u2019s disgusting.\u201d<\/p>\n

No doubt\/without a doubt<\/em><\/strong>
Lindsay: \u201cDo you think we should buy her a gift for her birthday?\u201d
Michelle: \u201cNo doubt, Lindsay. Especially since she\u2019s having a party!\u201d<\/p>\n

Definitely<\/em><\/strong>
Michelle: \u201cDo you want to plan the party together?\u201d
Lindsay: \u201cDefinitely. We can\u2019t do it alone!\u201d<\/p>\n

Totally<\/em><\/strong>
Lindsay: \u201cDo you think people have trouble talking about politics in the US?\u201d
Michelle: \u201cTotally! It causes a lot of arguments.\u201d<\/p>\n

Now let\u2019s look at a larger roleplay, so that you can see how this works naturally in an actual conversation.<\/p>\n

In this roleplay, Lindsay and Michelle are classmates going over discussion questions from the book.<\/p>\n

Lindsay: \u201cOk, so the next question is \u201cDid Judy have a right to be rude to her mother in Chapter 3?\u201d What do you think?\u201d
Michelle: \u201cWithout a doubt! I don\u2019t normally think people should be rude to their parents, but what her mother did was unforgivable, so I say she had a right. Do you agree?\u201d
Lindsay: \u201cAbsolutely. That\u2019s what I was going to say.\u201d
Michelle: \u201cOk next question. \u201cDo you think Ross and Jill will have a lasting relationship?\u201d
Lindsay: \u201cOh, totally. They are perfect for each other. You?\u201d
Michelle: \u201cDefinitely. That\u2019s an easy one!\u201d
Lindsay: \u201cTrue. Ok- here\u2019s a tough one. \u201cIs there a difference between the conflict in chapter 3 and chapter 5?\u201d
Michelle: \u201cFor sure! They are totally different!\u201d<\/p>\n

Sometimes you need to give a VERY quick yes from the start. <\/p>\n

There are instances where this works perfectly, and now you can get a feel for how these work.<\/p>\n
